Livening Up Asexual-Fungus Research

Earlier this week, Imperial College London issued a press release about research on Penicillium marneffei, an asexual fungus. In this context, asexual means an organism that reproduces without a mate, cloning itself.

In what must have been a desperate attempt to get Cosmopolitan magazine to pick up their story, they titled the press release “Lack of sex could be a signpost to extinction, claim researchers.”
